This report describes a small precentage of the instances of the Human Rights violations in Iran.
Students: Summoning and Interrogation
1- 9 female students of Tehran University were summoned by the university's disciplinary committee due to their participation in the university's union sit-in out. (Advar news 21/6/2006)
2- Mojtaba Taghavi Nejad, director of the students' publication Faryad was summoned by the Yasuj University’s disciplinary committee following a complaint made by the university's dean. He has been accused of insult, wrong accusation, the spreading of lies and the agitation of students' minds as well as the stimulation of students' organizations to revolt. (ILNA 25/6/2006)
Students: Trials
3- Mohammad Reza Rahimi Rad, Alireza Farokh Nia, Azadeh Ziya, Morteza Baresh Jan, Emad Bahavar and Behrouz Khaleghi, members of the Jonhoorikhah students' organization of Yazd University went on trial in the 5th branch of the Revision Court. They are charged with "insult to Khamenei".(ILNA 12/7/2006)
Students: Arrests
4- According to a female student of Ashtiyan Azad University, she was raped by her investigator after being arrested by the police. In objection to this action of the police, students gathered in front of the governor's office and police building. (Etemad Melli 27/6/2006)
5- Yaser Goli, a student in Sanandaj Azad University and editor-in-chief of the student publication Rona Kabir was arrested by the security forces. Security forces have also taken his computer case after searching his residence. (Tabriz News 2/7/2006)
6- Abed Tavancheh and Yashar Ghajar, students of Amir Kabir University in Tehran were released under a 50 million Tomans bail following two months of temporary detention. (ISNA 10/7/2006)
7-Mohammad Majdzadeh Ghaem Maghami, a student of Tehran University, was arrested by the police station 148. He was arrested by the security forces in relation to the student protests of Khordad 1382 as well as Labor Day. (ILNA 16/7/2006)
Students: sentences passed by the Court
8- Puya Mahmoudian, a member of Anjoman Eslami of Amir Kabir University has been sentenced to three and a half months of detention by Branch No. 13 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. He has been charged with taking actions against public security and the disturbance of public order. (Emrooz 26/6/2006)
9- Hani Bavi, Lafteh Sorkheh, Hossein Youghdar, Mansour Toyouri Nasab and Ghasem Karshavi, students of Chamran University, have been sentenced to retention and exile in Branch No. 13 of the Khouzestan province Revision Courts. They have been accused of participating and directing illegal organizations aimed at disturbing the country's order and participating in anti regime propaganda. The sentences are as follows: first defendant sentenced to 11 years of detention in Bafgh prison, second defendant sentenced to 10 years and 4 months of detention in Minab prison, third defendant sentenced to 13 years of detention in Abarkooh prison, forth defendant sentenced to 13 years of detention in Toyserkan prison and the fifth defendant sentenced to 3 years of detention in Damghan prison. According to "Saeed Nissi", the students' defense lawyer, his clients were kept in the "trial chambers’ waiting room" with dissatisfactory cleanliness. (ILNA 4/7/2006)
10- Asoo Saleh, As'ad Bagheri, Houraman Bahrami, Shouresh Moradi, Hiwa Rostami Zadeh and Fa'ezeh Karimian, students of Kurdistan University, all have been condemned by the university's disciplinary committee after charges laid for following accusations: insulting university officials, spreading of lies, insulting sacred values, intriguing and interrupting university's programs and encouraging students to participate in illegal gatherings. Their sentences are as follows: first and second defendants each are sentenced to one year and a half suspension from university, second and third defendants reprimand and fifth and sixth defendants’ condemned to community services. 11- Morteza Boresh Jan, Navid Gholami and Behrooz Khaleghi, members of the Jomhourikhah student organization of Yazd University have been sentenced in Branch No.3 of the Yazd revolution Court to 6 months of detention for propagation activities against the regime. (ISNA 14/7/2006)
Students: Banned Student Activities
12- Under the order of the unit controlling student organizations at Mazandaran University, the school’s Anjoman-e Eslami (Islamic society) activities have been suspended for 10 months; nominees for its central council have been denied right to compete; the election of central council members has been cancelled and 14 student members of Anjoman-e Eslami have been summoned to the university's disciplinary committee. 13- Two students have been injured as a direct result of the attack inflicted by the security forces on the student office of Anjoman-e Eslami of Sistan va Balouchestan University. (Anjoman-e Eslami Daneshjooyan-e Daneshgah-e Sistan va Balouchestan 28/6/2006)
14- Under the order of Dr. Ehsani, director of the unit controlling student organizations in Oroumiyeh University, Anjoman-e Eslami's activity permit has been cancelled. Its members are accused of disbelieving in and disobeying the IRI constitution. (ISNA 12/7/2006)
15- Under the order of the unit controlling student organizations, activities of students' Anjoman-e Eslami in Bou Ali Sina University of Hamedan have been suspended for meddling in educational matters. According to the regulations of the Cultural Revolution’s High Council, only student organizations that had officially recognize the regime, the Velayate-e Faghih (the Faghih’s guardianship and the constitution of the Islamic republic of Iran) have the right to be active in the university, as stated by the University’s dean, Dr. Khodayi. Students: Banned Student Publications
16- The student publication Faryad (with Mojtaba Taghavi Nejad as its editor), has been banned for 6 months by the disciplinary council as a result of a complaint made by the dean of Yasuj University. (ILNA 8/7/2006)
17- The student publication Vajeh (with Nasrollah Keshavarz as its editor), which was published in Amir Kabir University, has been banned for one year by the committee for controlling student publications. (Gooya News 10/7/2006)

18- The editor of the weekly periodical Hadis-e Ghazvin, Taghi Afshar, has been barred from publishing under the order of Branch No.2 of the Public and Revolutionary prosecutor's office in the province of Ghazvin, following a complaint from the Ghazvin’s chief of police. (Fars 27/6/2006)
19- With the pressure mounting on directors and managers of the Kurdistan Human Rights Activist Group, hackers from security agencies attacked websites of KHRAG secretariat, information centre and its education base in order to disable its internet connection. Press: Journalists Detained
20- Issa Yeganeh, editor-in-chief of the banned publication Payam Souldouz, has been arrested by the security forces of Naghadeh. In the past month, 9 journalists and press activists have been arrested in the north-western region of Iran after some unrest ensued in Azeri regions. (Tabriz News 27/6/2006)
21- Ali Shokoohi, editor of the news website Farda, has been arrested by the security forces for publishing the news of the likely change of Firooz Babadi, Armed forces joint chief of staff. He was released after a week on a 250 million Rials bail. (Fars 12/7/2006)
Press: Journalists Summoned
22- Morteza Fallah Meybodi, the editor of the banned newspaper Eghbal, has been summoned to the Branch No.5 of the Government Staff Public Prosecutor's office based on the complaint lodgesd by the public prosecutor. He has been accused of publishing the political views of Dr. Mostafa Moin, Mohsen Armin and Mohammad Reza Khatami, as well as reporting on Akbar Ganji illness in Evin prison. (ILNA 24/6/2006)
23- The editors of Ravanshenasi-e Jame'e and Jayezeh have been summoned to trial by Branch No.76 of Tehran’s penal Court. (ISNA 4/7/2006)
24- Borhan Lahvani" editor, and Bahram Valad Beigi, editor-in-chief of the banned publication Ashti, have been summoned for trial to Kurdistan province Penal Court for the spreading lies instigating public opinions. They have also been accused of acting against the national security interests under the complaint of public prosecutor, Kurdistan province intelligence directorate, Sepah-e Pasdaran and Basij forces. 25- Houshang Sefidi, editor of the banned newspaper Arman, has been summoned for interrogation by Branch No.6 of the Government Staff Public Prosecutor's office under the complaint of the public prosecutor. He has been accused of spreading fabricated matters and publishing the letter of Abdil Fattah Soltani's wife regarding his situation in jail. (ILNA 12/7/2006)
26- Fatemeh Kamali Ahmad Sarayi" editor of the banned monthly publication Jame'e No, has been summoned to trial by Branch No.1083 of the Tehran Public Court under the accusation of spreading lies to agitate public minds. (ILNA 16/7/2006)
27- Mostafa Kawakebian, editor of the periodical Mardom Salari, has been summoned to trial by Branch No.79 of the Tehran Penal Court for accusations of spreading lies to agitate public minds, insulting of the regime and the fabrication of newspaper articles. (ILNA 16/7/2006)
28- Ali Saleh Abadi, editor of the periodical Hambastegi (the official newspaper of the Hambastegi-e Iran-e Eslami party) and Aliasghar Jafari, editor of Jame Jam, have been summoned to by Branch No.76 of the Tehran Penal Court. (ILNA 27/7/2006)
29- Gholam Heydar Ebrahim Bay Salami, former editor of Hambastegi, has been summoned to trial by Branch No.1083 of the Tehran Penal Court. He has been accused of advertising against the regime and publishing untrue matters. (ISNA 28/7/2006)
Press: Journalists Interrogated
30- "Jamal Doroodi, editor of the banned newsletter Payam-e Jebheh Melli, has been summoned by the Information Ministry through the revolution public prosecution office. After 3 hours of interrogation he was warned that he no longer has the right to publish and distribute his newsletter. (Jebheh Melli Iran 25/6/2006)
31- Oj Amiri, a journalist, was released under a 5 million Tomans bail after having been interogated in the first branch of Marand public prosecutor's office. He had been inrcacerated since the month of Khordad for assisting in actions against the national security as well as participating in the public demonstration in Marand, under the complaint of Marand member of parliment Karim Shafe'i and Jolfa's prosecutor. 32- ILNA's journalist in Kerman was arrested by the police under the order of security director of the minister of housing for requesting an interview while the minister was visiting city of Bam. (ILNA 17/7/2006)
Press: Journalists Trial
33- Issa Sahar Khiz, editor of the banned monthly publication Aftab and the banned newspaper Akhbar Eghtesad, went on trial in Branch No.1083 of the Tehran Public Court (directed by judge Hossein Hosseinia") under the complaint of the public prosecutor, the Seda va Sima organization and information protection of police office. He has been accused of spreading lies, insulting the regime, advertising against the regime, insulting Islamic axioms and propounding fabricated matters. (ILNA 25/6/2006)
34- Maziyar Mehrani, editor of the banned publication Mahd Iran, went on trial in Branch No.1083 of the Tehran Public Court (directed by judge Hossein Hosseinian) for the spreading of prostitution and illicit matters, publishing pictures that are against public chastity and objectifying individuals in photographs. 35- Elham Afrootan, editor of the banned weekly publication Tamaddon Hormozgan, was sentenced in Branch No.26 of the Tehran revolution Court to a 150 thousand Tomans fine, one year of punishment retention which was suspended for 5 years and 5 years of deprivation from his social rights as well as journalism. 36- Abolfazl Vessali, editor-in-chief of the banned newspaper Nedaye Azarabadegan, went on trial in Branch No.6 of the Tabriz Revolutionary and Public Court for creating differences between the social classes through propounding racist and tribal matters and encouraging people in taking actions against the regime's security and interests. He has been in jail since the 17th of Khordad. (ILNA 15/7/2006)
37- Roya Toloo'I, editor-in-chief of the banned publication Rasan, has been tried in absentia in the first branch of Sanandaj Revolutionary Court for acting against the national security. (ILNA 17/7/2006)
38- Mehrdad Ghasemfar and Mana Neyestani, editor-in-chief and cartoonist, respectively, of the banned newspaper Iran Jom'eh went on trial in Branch No.15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court for drawing disrespectable cartoons and insulting the Azari speaking people. (ILNA 17/7/2006)
Press: Sentences issued by the Courts
39- Elyas Hazrati, editor of Etemad, has been sentenced by judge Mohammad Reza Saremi in Branch No.76 of the Tehran Penal Court to pay a 50 thousands Tomans fine for publishing fabricated matters. (ISNA 30/6/2006)
40- Masood Bastani, editor-in-chief of the banned weekly publication Nedaye Eslahat has been sentenced to a 300 thousand Tomans fine and 74 lashings in Branch No.1161 of the Tehran Public Court. He has been charged with participation in illegal demonstrations in front of the Milad Hospital as well as the disturbance of the public calm and order due to a report on Akbar Ganji's hunger strike (ILNA 8/7/2006)
41- Sayyed Abbas Madah, editor of the banned weekly publication Talash, has been sentenced to pay a 600 thousand Tomans fine by Branch No.1083 of the Tehran Public Court (presided over by judge Hossein Hosseinian) for propounding fabricated matters. (ISNA 12/7/2006)
42- Mahdi Rahmanian, editor of Shargh, has been sentenced to pay a 50 thousand Tomans fine in Branch No.76 of the Tehran Penal Court (presided over by judge Mohammad Reza Saremi) for publishing fabricated matters and the spreading of lies to agitate public minds following a complaint by the public prosecutor and students' Basij. 43- Abdolrasool Vesal, former editor of the periodical Iran, has been sentenced to pay a 200 thousand Tomans fine by Branch No.76 of the Tehran Penal Court (directed by judge Mohammad Reza Saremi) for insulting and spreading lies to agitate public minds. (ILNA 17/7/2006)
News about Political, Cultural, and Social Activists
44- According to Ali Mohammad Afghani, the novel Shadkaman-e Dareye ghorsoo, which was written and published in 1344, has not been published in 23 years, since 1362. Every time its republishing was requested, the ministry of Islamic Culture and Orthodoxy (Vezarate Farhang va Ershad-e Eslami) have demanded for parts of the work to be deleted, without the consent of neither the author nor the publishing house. 45- A 70 year-old man, Mohammad Saleh Bashbalaghi, and his wife Tooba Reza Poor"were publicly insulted and beaten in the Saghez Revolutionary Court for challenging their son Azad Bashbalaghi's arrest. Ramin Salehi, a 15 year-old from the Ghisloo village in the Saghez district was arrested, insulted and beaten by the Mirdeh village’s Sepah forces for distributing a Kurdish party's manifesto. 46- On his way to a flight to Lebanon, Jasem Shadid Zadeh Tamimi Ahvaz's member of the last parliament was announced to be henceforth prohibited to exit from the Mehrabad airport. (ILNA 30/6/2006)
47- The Kurdistan Human Rights organization (RMMK) has written a letter to the UN human rights council. The organization has expressed worries about the violation of human rights in the Iranian Kurdistan by the Iranian regime, particularly concerning Kurdish prisoners' situations and the regime’s trial methods. In this letter, the organization has asked for the prisoners to be tried according to international standards in the presence of their lawyers. The names, specifications, accusations and punishments of several Kurdish political, social and cultural activists were accounced accordingly.

48- Azam Taleghani maintains that "When the weekly publication Payam Hajar was banned, we requested another publication license which was granted but was not announced and given to us. When we asked for the reason why they did not pass it to us, the response was that it was simply not advisable for us to have it." This happened in spite of the fact that all structure members of the press control council, such as the information ministry, the justice system, the police forces and the registrar's office must give their opinion before issuing the license. Taleghani continues, "I have repeatedly contacted the press assistant in the Ershad ministry during Khatami and Ahmadinejad presidency, but have been told that they will need a guarantee." Political, Cultural, and Social Activists’ Summon to Court
50- Issa Gholi Ahmadi Niya, the member of Izeh in the 6th Islamic parliament was summoned for interrogation to Branch No.10 of the governments' staff Court. (ILNA 25/6/2006)
51- Mohammad Kianoush Rad, the Ahvaz member in the 6th Islamic parliament and member of the Jebheh Mosharekat-e Eslami's central council was interrogated in Branch No.10 of the government’s staff Court for his assisting in the insulting of Khamene'i and purposefully destroying and burning governmental buildings. 52- Diba Alikhani, director of Jame'e Hemayat Az Zanan (Women's Protection Society), was summoned by the Court for participating in a women’s protest on the 22 Khordad of 1384 and 1385 ceremonies for stopping violence against women and acting against national security. 53- Hamid Kahram, the member of Ahvaz in the 6th Islamic parliament was interrogated in the Branch No.10 of the Governments' Staff Court for lecturing in Izeh in Esfand 1383. (ILNA 17/7/2006)

54- 19 people accused of taking parts in placing bombs in Ahvaz, Abadan and Dezfool were privately tried in Branch No.3 of the Ahvaz revolution Court. (ILNA 19/7/2006)
55- Dr. Alireza Sasani, a scientist and pharmacology researcher who has been incarcerated since 84/2/25 went on trial in Branch No.13 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. He has been accused of fighting the regime. (Student committee of Human Rights reporters 21/7/2006)
Arresting Political, Cultural, and Social Activists
56- According to Hojjat Ol-Eslam Najaf Agha Zadeh, the head of Eastern Azarbayejan's justice system, 330 people have been arrested by the security forces in relation to Tabriz public protests. 9 people in Marand and 5 people in Ahar have also been arrested by the security forces. The accused will be tried in the revolution Court. (ILNA 22/6/2006)
57- According to Gholamreza Khalaf Rezayi, the head of Ardebil's justice system, 325 people were arrested by the security forces in Ardebil's public protests ,35 of whom are still in jail. (ILNA 24/6/2006)
58- The names and specifications of 153 of Azari’s political and cultural activists and journalists who have been arrested in Tabriz, Tehran, Oroumiyeh, Ardebil, Meshkin Shahr, Khoy, Pars Abad-e Moghan, Marand, Maragheh, Miyandoab and Ahar were announced by an information leaflet by "Daftar-e Tahkim-e Vahdat". 59- A few of Azarbayejani political, cultural or social activists were arrested by the security forces are: Akbar Ghorbani in Ardebil, Ebrahim Jafar Zadeh in Khoy, Faramarz Pastoo, Shahram Ahmad Zadeh and SahebAli Rostami in Khoda Afarin-e Moghan. 60- Reza Abbasi" member of the "Sazman-e Danesh Amoukhtegan-e Iran-e Eslmai" and member of the committee in charge of defending Azarbayejan's political prisoners has been arrested by Zanjan information officials. (Advar News 28/6/2006)
61- The 61 year old Sayyed Mahdi Sayyed Zadeh, member of a pre-revolution Muslim political prisoners' society has been arrested by Tabriz information officials. (ILNA 1/7/2006)
62- Shahram Aziz Pour has been arrested by the security forces for possessing several copies of a Kurdish party's newspaper. Zankoo Rahmati, Aram Reza Zadeh and Hassan Ahmadi have also been arrested by the security forces for their political activities as well as their connection to a Kurdish party. Keyvan Ahmadi was injured in a related shooting. (Kurdistan Human Rights organization - RMMK 2/7/2006)
63- Azarbayejani political, cultural or social activists Hassan Rashedi, Ebrahim Vosooghi, Mohammad Jafar Pour, Bahman Sadeghi, Farzad Aziz Kahni, Emamat Madadi, Sekhavat Madadi, Ebadat Madadi, and Ali Badali, students of Payam-e Nour university of Tabriz and Ali Roba'i, Aghil Azar Dokht, Vahid Amini, students of Oroumiyeh university, were arrested by the security forces in Tehran, Tabriz, Ardebil, Ahar, Oroumiyeh and Kaleybar. 64- Ayat Ollah Seyyed Hasan Abtahi, a 71 year-old one, has been arrested by the information ministry officials and transferred to Qom prison for "claiming a connection with Emam Zaman". His arrest was ordered by the clergy Court. 15 of his students have also been arrested in different cities. (Rooz 3/7/2006)
65- Ramezan Mirzapour Shafi'I, a lawyer and director of the Now Andishan-e Asr-e Sabz society was arrested by the order of Qom clergy Court. (ILNA 5/7/2006)
66- Kayvan Rafi'I, a speaker of Fa'alan-e Hoghogh-e Bashar has been arrested by the security forces along with 6 other participants of Tehran University events' anniversary. (Human Rights Activists in Iran 10/7/2006)
67- According to Azam Taleghani, Hassan Sarahi, an editor of Ayatollah Taleghani’s writings, was abducted by the security forces on the 3rd of Ordibehesht and none of the regime structures have yet claimed responsibility for his arrest. (Advar News 12/7/2006)
68- Edris Khandeh Rash, Omar Salehi Zadeh, Hajar Arabi and Jafar Isareh have been arrested after having been insulted and beaten by the security forces for participating in the Mahabad civil public protest for the anniversary of Dr. Ghasemloo's assassination, former head of the Iranian Kurdistan democrat party. 69- Mohammad Tabasi, a political activist, has been arrested in the workers' protest in front of the Ta'min-e Ejtema'i building. ( Human Rights Activists in Iran 16/7/2006)
70- Farzaneh Razavi and her husband Fayegh Amini, were arrested by the security forces of Baneh for their political activities. Fayegh Amini was released after being interrogated, but Farzaneh Razavi was transferred to Saghez prison. (Kurdistan Human Rights organization - RMMK 23/6/2006)
Political, Cultural, and Social Activists’ Sentences Issued by Courts
71- The sentence of retention for Esmail Jamshidi, member of Iranian writers' society, which was previously issued by the 26th branch of Tehran revolution Court was enforced by the enforcement branch of this Court. (ILNA 23/6/2006)
72-"Hossein Sharifi, a school teacher in Divandareh, was expelled for political advertising in school, advertising against religion and mentioning Kurdish leaders. (Kurdistan Human Rights organization - RMMK 26/6/2006)
73- Taha Ahmadi was sentenced in Branch No.1 of the Marivan's Revolutionary Court to 4 years of detention and 5 years of exile to Izeh, in the Khuzestan province. He has been accused of acting against the national security, advertising against the regime, advertising a Kurdish party, processing pictures of the party leaders and gathering information on Darivandeh's Basij forces. 74- Farshid Yadollahi and Omid Behrouzi, two 52 year-old lawyers of Gonabadi Darwishes were tried in Branch No.112 of the Qom Penal Court and sentenced to one year of retention each, 74 lashings, a 3,000 thousand Rials fine and a 5 year ban from their law practice. (ILNA 9/7/2006)
75- Ali AbouTorabi, Masoud Shafi'i Niya, Mohammad Sadegh AbouTorabi, Meysam Sadri, Mohammad Bagher Mohammad Zadeh and Abolfazl Ghasem Sharifi were sentenced to prison and lashings in the Qom clergy Court. They have been accused of disturbing Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's lecture, disturbing public order, disrespecting the clergy and spreading lies to agitate public minds. (ILNA 16/7/2006)
76- Abdol Fallah Soltani, a Court lawyer and member of Defense of Human Rights Center – DHRC - was sentenced to 5 years of detention and 5 years of deprivation from social rights in the Branch No.26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. He has been accused of advertising against the regime and leaking private documents. (ILNA 17/7/2006)

83- Hashem Shahi Niya has been sentenced to 5 years of detention in Branch No.26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court for supporting the Mojahedin-e Khalgh organization. Mohammad Reza Khansari, a political activist, was sentenced to a year of detention for insulting and advertising against the regime and disturbing the national security. 84- Seyfollah Se Gani, Behrooz Por Karegar, Riyaz Khazrayi and Sadat Amiri were tortured while in jail for being connected to the Mojahedin-e Khalgh organization. They were sentenced to 10 to 15 years of detention in the first branch of the Tehran Military Court. Ms. Sadat Amiri's leg broke while under tortured and she is currently unable to walk. 154- According to the annual report of Anjoman-e Defa' Az Hoghoogh-e Zendanian (Defending prisoners Rights’society), prisoner Gholamreza Malekian has been kept in an isolation cell or in the 209th chapel without a sentence for 5 years. Another prisoner, Amirzadeh, has been kept in an isolation cell for 14 months and has prohibited from seeing both his lawyer and his family.
