Tehran, Iran, Apr.
10 – Seven members of a banned Kurdish group have
been arrested, a semi-official daily reported on Monday.
One of the detained was an “official cadre” from the Kurdish group Pejak while the six others were important members, the
hard-line daily Jomhouri Islami
wrote.
The report said that Pejak had been responsible
for the deaths of an agent of the State Security Forces (SSF) and two
members of the paramilitary Bassij force over the
Persian New Year period.
The western province
of Kurdistan has been
a hotbed of anti-government protests and since 2005 Kurdish youths have
repeatedly clashed with security forces. A number of demonstrators have
been killed by agents of the SSF during such clashes.
