Iran quake leaves four-year-old girl dead Sat. 03 Jun 2006

Tehran, Iran, Jun. 03 – A powerful earthquake struck the Iranian island of Qeshm on Saturday leaving a young girl dead, state media reported.

The quake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck at approximately 10.45, the official news agency reported, adding that the epicentre was in the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan.

A four-year-old girl died in the quake and two other people were injured, according to Mehdi Iran-Nejad, the governor of Qeshm.

In November, 10 people died and dozens were injured when a 5.9 magnitude-quake jolted Qeshm which is situated in the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
