Tehran, Iran, Jul. 19 - A young man and a
minor were hanged in public on Tuesday in Iran’s second largest city, a
government-funded news agency reported.
The two, only identified by their initials M.A and A.M., were convicted of
sexual assault on a 13-year-old boy by the Islamic Tribunal of Mashad, according to ISNA news agency.
Ruhollah Rezazadeh, the
lawyer for one of the two hanged men, said that his client was under the
age of 18.
Each of the men was lashed 228 times before being hanged at 10 am (local time) in Edalat (Justice) Square in downtown Mashad.
Under the penal code, girls as young as nine and boys as young as 15 can be
executed.
