Man lashed in public in northern Iran town

Tehran, Iran, Jul. 27 – A man was lashed in public in the northern town of Gorgan for distribution of alcoholic beverages, according to the official news agency.

The man, identified only as 37-year-old Rahmat A., was lashed 74 times in the presence of representatives of the judiciary, prosecutor’s office, the judge who issued the sentence, and several other officials, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

Rahmat was also sentenced to one year in prison, a 6 million Rial ($600 dollars) fine, and four years of internal exile.
