Mizan News Agency “Incites Violence Against Our Journalists” Says BBC
August 10, 2018—The inflammatory statements against the BBC that were published on August 7, 2018 by the Mizan News Agency, which functions as the official news website of the Iranian Judiciary, pose a threat to the personal safety of BBC journalists and should be immediately denounced by the Iranian government, the Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) said in a statement today.
Ongoing Harassment of BBC Persian Staff Continues Despite Repeated UN Criticism
March 12, 2017—The UN should take immediate action on an appeal by the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) urging the Human Rights Council to protect journalists from an escalating campaign of intimidation and harassment by Iranian security forces.
“The UN should act forcefully on this appeal to protect the rights of Iranian journalists and their families who have been targeted by the state’s security establishment,” said Hadi Ghaemi, executive director of the Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI).
November 2, 2017 — The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) today released a video about the criminal investigation by Iran’s judiciary of 152 current and former staff members of BBC Persian. The defendants, all Iranian nationals based outside the country, recently discovered that the Iranian judiciary froze their assets in the state’s ongoing campaign aimed at intimidating Farsi-speaking journalists into stopping their reporting on Iran or producing pro-state reporting.
